Tips for Extending the Life of Your Battery:

• Battery Memory - When I first got my new cellphone, my friend recommended to fully drain the battery before recharging it. His reasoning was connected to the idea of battery memory. Allowing the battery to fully discharge then recharging to max, supposedly gives you the complete battery capacity. Otherwise, if you simply charged from the half way point to max battery capacity, the battery would treat the half way point as the empty point, thus cutting your battery capacity in half
• Battery Calibration - There are some benefits to fully discharging your battery periodically, for laptops this can be especially important. If you start to notice your battery meter becoming more and more inaccurate, it may be time for some battery calibration. Allow your battery completely drain, then charge until the battery is full again. This will calibrate your battery giving you more accurate readings
• Consequences of Heat - Another enemy of battery life is heat. If you were to leave your laptop plugged in and running for a year, you should expect the battery capacity to be anywhere between 60% to 80% of it's original max capacity. This is why people that use their laptops as desktop replacements will notice greatly reduced battery life performance after one year of use. This issue can be resolved by removing the battery while using a corded power source
• Battery Storage - If you don't plan on using your battery for prolonged periods of time, then you'll want to reduce the charge level to 40% and place the battery in the fridge (not freezer). Storing the battery at 100% charge level applies unnecessary stress and can cause internal corrosion. How to Compare AA Batteries:



Although many electronics use rechargeable batteries, disposable AA batteries are still used for small electronics such as video game peripherals, flashlights and computer accessories. Not all batteries are created equal. By taking into account your usage habits, you can compare different types of batteries and decide which work best for you

• Consider your usage needs. If you plan to use your batteries frequently, choose alkaline batteries with a recharging function. However, if you don't plan to use your batteries frequently, select lithium batteries. They are better at holding a charge
• Plan where you will use the batteries. If you will use the batteries in your home, regular alkaline batteries will work fine. If you plan to take your small electronics into an extreme weather situation, choose rugged battery that will stand up to high temperatures and severe conditions. A nickel cadmium battery is durable
• Keep practicality paramount. Although alkaline batteries are the cheapest and most widely available, they are not always up to your usage needs. Similarly, nickel cadmium or lithium ion batteries may provide too much performance at a high cost to be worth using. How to Test Rechargeable Battery Chargers:

If you have multiple battery-operated devices that use AAA, AA or other replaceable batteries, you likely go through many batteries. A battery charger allows you to purchase rechargeable batteries and reuse them hundreds and even thousands of times. However, it may be hard to determine if the rechargeable batteries are nearing the end of their usable life or if the charger is malfunctioning. You can test the functionality of the charger without any special tools or equipment

• Open the battery compartment of the battery-operated rechargeable device. Many devices have battery compartment covers that slide off or unhinge
• Insert the rechargeable batteries into the device. Close the battery compartment. Power on the device and use it until the batteries are drained. The device may suddenly shut off or notify you that the batteries are low
• Open the battery compartment and remove the batteries. Insert the drained batteries into the battery charger
• Plug the battery charger into a wall outlet. Look for a status light on the charger that will light up when powered. If the light does not come on, try another wall outlet. Note that some chargers may lack a status light or the charger may still work even if the light malfunctions
• Leave the charger plugged in overnight or for a few hours. Unplug the charger. Remove the batteries and insert them into a battery-operated device. Attempt to use the device. If the device functions, the battery charger successfully charged the batteries
